court decision

A Dhaka court Monday placed two people including a son of Ameer of Jamaat-e- Islami on a two-day fresh remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Jatrabari Police Station.

The two accused are- Rafat Sadik Saifullah, son of Jamaat Ameer Dr Md Shafikur Rahman and Arif Fahim Siddiqui.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order after police produced the duo in the court on completion of their three-day remand in the case and pleaded to place them on seven-day fresh remand. The defense however, pleaded for scraping the remand plea and granting bail.

After hearing both the sides, the court placed the two accused on a two-day fresh remand each.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the accused on November 9 from Sylhet.

According to the police, Rafat is a top leader of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam's Sylhet chapter and used to run Jihadi activities there for long. Police recently arrested three militants from the capital's Jatrabari area and while interrogating the three, they found the name of Rahat as one of their leaders. - Special Correspondent
