Son among 7 sentenced to death for killing woman in Noakhali
A court here today sentenced seven people, including son Humayun Kabir Huma, for killing a woman and chopping her into five pieces in Char Jabbar union under Subarnachar upazila of the district in 2020.
District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Nilufar Sultana pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The accused who have been sentenced to death are- Humayun Kabir Huma,32, the woman's son, Nirab,26, Noor Islam ,32, Kalam, 30, Suman,33, Hamid,28, and Ismail,30. They were all in court for the verdict.
The court also fined them Taka 5,000 each, public prosecutor (pp) Advocate Gulzar Ahmed Jewel said.
On October 6, 2020, son Humayun Kabir Humu premeditatedly killed his mother Noor Jahan Begum with his accomplices due to a dispute over property.
According to the details of the case, on Oct 7, 2020, police recovered the five pieces of decapitated body of Noor Jahan Begum, a housewife, from a paddy field in Jahajmara village of the Upazila.
Victim's son Humayun Kabir Huma, son of the victim, first filed a case with the police station as a plaintiff in this murder case.
According to the source of the case, the police investigation revealed the direct involvement of the son Humayun in the murder. The police found evidence that his seven accomplices had committed the murder, public prosecutor (pp) Advocate Gulzar Ahmed Jewel said.
Police subsequently initiated another case, naming Humayun Kabir as the main suspect.
According to the case dossier, Belal Hossain, Noor Jahan's son from her previous marriage, died a few years before her murder. Noor Jahan later had a row with her other son, Humayun, over the repayment of Belal's debts. Consequently, Humayun plotted with friends, relatives and neighbours to kill his mother.
Five of the accused have given statements in court.
