No private universities will be paid income tax for now, as per Appellate Division of the Supreme Court verdict.
An eight-member HC bench, led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, pronounced the judgement on Thursday dismissing the review petition.
Fifteen per cent income tax on private universities has been proposed in the budget for the 2021-22 fiscal. Later, the owners of different private universities filed writs challenging the government decision. Then, the High Court stayed the decision. The government filed an appeal challenging the HC order which is upheld by the SC Thursday.
