Woman gets life term for killing husband in Lakshmipur

A court here today sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment for killing husband in Sadar upazila of the district in 2022.

The court also fined her Tk 10,000, in default, she will have to suffer one year more in jail.

Lakshmipur District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Md Rahibul Islam handed down the verdict this afternoon.

The convict is Jahanara Begum, 51, wife of Milon, a resident of Dakshin Khaguria village under Dighli union of the upazila.

Public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.

According to the case and court sources, in the morning on April 24, 2022, Milan's body was found with his hands tied to a betel nut tree in a garden next to the house. On receiving the information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The next day Milon's son Safayet Hossain Mahbu filed a case against unknown accused at Chandraganj police station.

In this incident, the police detained Jahanara Begu, the wife of the deceased Milon, for questioning. She confessed to killing her husband and she gave a confessional statement in the court under section 164.

Police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court.

After examining witnesses, the court found her guilty and handed down the punishment today, reports BSS.
