Former superintendent of police Babul Akhter and his father Abdul Wadud Mia have been relieved of charges in DSA case.

Former superintendent of police Babul Akhter and his father Abdul Wadud Mia have been relieved of charges in the case filed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Charges have been farmed against journalist Elias Hossain and Babul’s brother Md Habibur Rahman Labu in the same case.

Judge AM Julfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order after scrutinising the case dockets and other relevant documents on Tuesday.

The tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against Elias Hossain as he is on the run.

The tribunal fixed August 31 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case.

Md Rabiul Islam, an inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, on April 19 submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

On September 27 last year, the PBI chief filed the case against Babul and three others with Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of spreading false and untrue information regarding the Mitu murder case.
