Court decision
A court in Dhaka has indicted seven people, including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and its Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Shohel, in the murder case of Police Constable Shamim.
Five other accused people are- Abdus Satter, Shah Alam, Anwar Hossain Tipu, and Alfaz alias Abbas.
Acting Judge Bilkis Akter of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka framed charges against the accused on Thursday.
Rizvi’s lawyer Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah confirmed the matter to the media.
According to the charge sheet of the case, on January 17, 2015, Tipu hurled several cocktails and two petrol bombs at a bus carrying police personnel, injuring more than 12 police officials.
Police Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam filed a violence case the next day with Ramna Model Police Station in connection with the incident.
Nineteen days later, Shamim Miah, a police constable who suffered severe burns and splinter injuries that day, died while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
Later, on July 14 in 2016, CID Police Inspector Md Ali Akkas pressed charge sheet against the seven people in a murder case. - Special Correspondent
