A Chattogram court on Sunday sentenced three brothers to imprisonment until death for killing a youth in Chattogram's Anwara upazila in 2013.

The convicts who were sentenced to jail unto death are Harun Rashid,40, and his two brothers Anwar Hossain,36, and Zahed Hossain Tuntu,32, sons of late Ali Ahmed of Shilaigora village of Ward No. 4 of the upazila.

According to the prosecution, one of the convicts Zahed  Hossain  was catching fish in a beel ( water body) next to the house of Shahed on July 1, 2013 .

They locked into an altercation when Shahed obstructed Zahed to catch fish there.

Later, Zahed called his two brothers over mobile and the three brothers hacked Shahed with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Shahed and sent him to Anwara Health Complex where doctors referred him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) as his condition deteriorated.

Shahed died on July 2 while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A case was filed at Anwara police station against the three brothers following a complaint lodged by Md Yusuf, uncle of the victim.

After investigation, police submitted a chargesheet on July 23, 2014 against the accused.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Chattogram Additional Sessions Court-7 Judge ASM Shahidullah Kaiser handed down the judgment, reports UNB.
