A Dhaka court has framed charges against 15 people in ASP Anis murder.
A Dhaka court has framed charges against 15 people including the registrar of the state-run National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) Dr Abdullah Al Mamun in a case filed over the murder of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon at a hospital in the city in 2020.
As a result of this, trial in the case began formally.
The court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-3 Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam ordered to frame charges on Tuesday (September 12), rejecting the appeal for acquitting the accused of the charges.
The court also set November 9 to record deposition in the case.
Assistant Public Prosecutor of the court concerned Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed the information.
Earlier on November 30 last year, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted chargesheet to the court against 15 people including the registrar of the state-run National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) Dr Abdullah Al Mamun in the case filed over the murder of ASP Anisul Karim Shipon. PBI Inspector (Unarmed) AKM Nasir Ullah, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet.
The charge-sheeted accused were Mind Aid Hospital Director Arif Mahamud, Pharmacist Tanveer Hasan, Officers Sakhawat Hossain, Sajjad Amin and Fatema Khatun, Hospital Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, Employees Masud Khan, Jobair Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajib Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Pal, Liton Ahmed, Saiful Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun.
Among the accused, Asim Kumar Pal is behind the bars and Sakhawat Hossain is on the run while 13 others are on bail.
Anisul had been suffering from mental illness and was brought to Dhaka’s Mind Aid Hospital for treatment around 11:45am on November 9 in 2020.
The accused forcibly took the victim to the observation room of the hospital and beat him repeatedly.
The hospital staff then informed Anisul’s family that he had fainted.
