BNP Organizing Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince has been remanded today for three days in a case filed for allegedly snatching a pistol from police and attacking the Police Liberation War Museum.
Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam of Dhaka granted the three-day remand against Saleh Prince on Sunday after police produced him in the court and sought a seven-day remand while his lawyer sought bail for his client.
Earlier on Saturday night, the detectives arrested Syed Emran Saleh Prince from a house of his relative in Badda area of the capital.
According to the case statement, on November 2, Khilkhet Police Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam filed the case with Paltan Police Station on the charges of snatching a pistol from police and attacking Police Liberation War Museum. In the case the name of BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi’s name was mentioned and 14 other people were made accused.
Besides, 300 to 400 other unnamed people were made accused in the case.
The case statement said on October 28, the accused named in the police report and unknown ones, following the instigation and direction of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and Dhaka City BNP Convener Abdus Salam, vandalized canteen of Paltan Police Station, hurled brickbats towards Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum, vandalized and torched different vehicles, including motorcycles, and torched duty post of Chanmari Police Lines.
They attacked police when the law enforcers tried to restrain them to save lives and public property, leaving several policemen injured, said the statement.
The accused people also beat up Assistant Sub-Inspector Ershadul Haque to kill him and
snatched away his pistol and eight rounds of bullet-filled magazine, the statement added. - Special Correspondent
