HC summons VP Nur to face contempt rule for derogatory words

VP Nur summoned by High Court over contempt rule.

Dhaka, Dec 17 - The High Court on Sunday summoned Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gano Odhikar Parishad and former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), for making derogatory remarks against judges.

The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil came up with the suo moto rule on Sunday.

Nurul Haque Nur has been asked to appear before the court on January 17 to give his side of the story.  

Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mainul Hasan and Assistant Attorney General Kalipada Mridha represented the state.

Lawyer Kalipada Mridha said the High Court summoned Nurul Haque Nur on January 17 to explain the contempt of court rule against him.

On December 7, Gana Adhikar Parishad held a protest rally and road blockade in the city. Nurul Haque Nur, president of a faction of Gana Adhikar Parishad and former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), made derogatory remarks against the judges of the court.
