Court decision

A court of Cumilla on Sunday sentenced 9 people to death and 9 others to life imprisonment in the murder case of former Jubo League President Jamal Uddin of Chauddagram upazila of the district.

However, the court acquitted 5 people in the same case as they were not proved guilty in the case.

Judge Mohammad Jahangir Hossain of the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Fourth Court delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon.

According to case statement, former Chairman of Alkora Union Parishad Ismail Hossain Bacchu and Jubo League leader Jamal had been in dispute.

On January 8 of 2016, Jamal was abducted by the convicts following rivalry with the Chairman.

Later, they took him to an under-construction building where they killed the Jubo League leader.

Zohra Begum, elder sister of Jamal, filed a case against 21 identified and some unidentified people.

Later, Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against 23 accused people. - Special Correspondent
