4 sentenced to death in garment worker Tanim murder case

Dhaka, Feb 16 - A Dhaka court Wednesday sentenced four persons to death in a murder case filed for killing Ashulia’s garments operator Md Tanim.

Second Additional District and Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Ismat Ara pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

The death sentenced convicts are- Garments worker Sohel Rana, Farhad Hossain, Ashiqur Rahman and Nazrul Islam.

After the verdict was declared, the victim’s mother Sayeda Sultana told the media men, we are satisfied with the verdict, but the verdict should be implemented early.

The case record says, on July 22, 2017, Tanim was disappeared. After three days, the victim’s body was recovered from Khagan village jungle of Ashulia. Police recovered the unknown body of the victim and sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

They also filed an unnatural death case.

On the other hand, victim’s wife Nurunnahan filed a General Diary with Kafrul Police Station of the city on August 10.. Later, victim’s mother Sayeda Sultana filed a murder case with the CMM Court of against the convicts including Sohel Rana on the charges of kidnapping. The court directed Ashulia Police Station to take it as an FIR. During investigation of the case the whole story was known.

Of the convicts, Sohel Rana was first arrested in the court and made confession under the 164 of the CrPC. Of the 30 witness of case, 16 testified in the case.

The court began trial of the case on November 5, 2018. The convicts were also fined Tk 20,000 or they will suffer imprisonment for six months. In the extortion case, the convicts were granted imprisonment for five years with fine of Tk 10,000 each. - Special Correspondent
