Tulip Siddiq Will Be Fugitive if She Skips Court: ACC
British lawmaker Tulip Siddiq, niece of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, will be declared a fugitive if she fails to appear in court within the stipulated time, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) warned today.
Md Akhtar Hossain, director general of the ACC, made the statement while speaking to reporters at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
In a separate development, the ACC filed a case against four individuals for allegedly attempting to embezzle Tk 5 crore by fraudulently securing a loan from Padma Bank. The case was filed by Assistant Director Muhammad Rakib Uddin Minhaj at the ACC's Integrated District Office in Dhaka, Akhtar confirmed.
The accused include former chairman of Padma Bank PLC Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, the bank’s senior executive vice president Sabbir Mohammad Sayem, Managing Director of Abdul Monem Limited ASM Mainuddin Monem, and Farhana Monem.
Additionally, a case has been filed against Nasrin Islam, wife of NASAA Group chairman Nazrul Islam, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 20 crore.
Akhtar also reported that the ACC filed two separate cases against 27 individuals, including former Union Bank managing director ABM Mokammel Haque, for embezzling Tk 33.5 crore from the bank through fake bills and vouchers.
