A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against 53 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, and son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, in connection with fresh corruption cases over plot allocations.

Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Court passed the order on Sunday after taking into cognizance the charge sheets in three separate cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Court sources confirmed that the ACC recently submitted charge sheets accusing the 53 individuals of irregularities in plot allocations under the Purbachal New Town Project. Since all accused are absconding, the court ordered the arrest warrants.

Earlier, on 10 April, a separate arrest warrant was issued against Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul in another case linked to the same project.

The ACC began investigating alleged corruption in plot allocations involving Hasina and her family members on 26 December last year. Following the investigation, the ACC filed six cases alleging misuse of power and irregularities in allotting 60 katha of land under the Purbachal project.

The commission approved the charge sheets against Hasina and seven family members on 10 March, accusing them of colluding in the illegal allocations.

Further proceedings in these cases are ongoing.
