Dhaka, Apr 14 – The mobile courts during anti-pollution drives in different parts of the country including in Dhaka slapped Tk 9.26 lakh as fine for polluting air.
The drives were conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in Dhaka, Barishal and Gaibandha district on Sunday.
The mobile courts conducted drives in various areas of Dhaka, including Matuail, Banani, Kalabagan, Dhanmondi, Lalmatia and Aminbazar.
Several establishments were warned for burning waste in Matuail and Aminbazar while three cases were filed against air pollution caused by unregulated construction materials. Tk 26,000 were filed during the drive.
In Barishal, two mobile courts raided Lathullabad Bus Stand area and took action against the production, sale and distribution of banned polythene.
A case was filed and a fine was slapped during the drive.
Some 200 kilograms of illegal polythenes were seized from the scene.
Meanwhile, in Gaibandha, the mobile court conducted drives in three illegal brick kilns factories.
Three cases were filed and Tk 9 lakh was fined during the drive.
Chimneys of the kilns were demolished and their operations suspended. - UNB
