A court here today placed Md Jahangir Alam, former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, on a two-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of Sheikh Mehedi Hasan Zunayed in the city’s Bongshal area during the July-August mass uprising in 2024.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhazur Rahman passed the order as police produced Jahangir before the court and prayed for five-day remand, public prosecutor Kamruzzaman Swapan told BSS.

Md Jahangir Alam was arrested from the capital’s Gulshan area on October 1, 2024.

According to the case documents, Zunayed came under attack when taking part in a procession on August 5, 2024 at Dhaka Medical Burn Institute.

Zunayed received bullet injuries in his head as police and Awami League cadres shot at him. He was rushed to the hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

In this connection a case was filed with the Bongshal Police Station on September 5, 2024 implicating former home secretary Jahangir Alam and others, reports BSS.
