Dhaka, 29 Oct  - Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das has suffered an injury to his right elbow while batting in the first innings of the ongoing Mirpur Test against the West Indies.

The injury however forced him to miss wicket keeping duties during the innings of West Indies.

Backup wicketkeeper Jaker Ali Anik took over behind the stumps as Liton was placed under close observation by the team medical staff.

"Liton Das has sustained a contusion to his right elbow after being struck while batting in Bangladesh's first innings," national team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan said here today. "He is now under observation. Jaker Ali Anik is the substitute wicketkeeper."

Liton remained unbeaten on 34 amid Bangladesh's batting collapse in the first innings, but his latest injury has raised fresh concerns for the hosts.

The wicketkeeper-batter had only recently recovered from a hip joint injury sustained after Bangladesh's Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, which ruled him out of the subsequent tri-series and cast doubt over his availability for the opening Test against the West Indies.

He eventually returned to training and was declared fit to play in the Mirpur Test.

The latest setback has put Bangladesh in a difficult position, although team sources indicated that Liton is expected to bat in the second innings despite being unable to keep wickets.BSS
