Amir Jangoo and Kevin Wickham hit half-centuries as West Indies recovered from early collapse to reach 180-4 at tea on Day 1 of the second cricket Test against Bangladesh at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

After West Indies slumped to 27-3 in the first hour of the game, the duo shared 131-run for the fourth wicket to steady the innings.

Wickham made 61 on his debut innings before falling to Hasan Mahmud but Jangoo was batting on 76 at the interval with Justin Greaves on 16.

West Indies, eying a clean sweep, won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled against Bangladesh pacers.

Thanks to Bangladesh’s poor slip fielding, they survived quite a few times before Taskin broke through in the fifth over.

This time, Taskin didn’t need any help from the fielders as he rattled the stump of the Brandon King for 9.

Hasan Mahmudu got into act immediate in the next over, also flattening the stump of Kevam Hodge for 1.

Taskin then trapped Joshua Da Silva who replaced Johan Campbell, out with viral fever, leg-before for 12 as West Indies were at struggling 27-3. Wickham was initially nervous on what was his debut innings but he managed to weather Bangladesh attack with strong determination. He reached his fifty off 123 with a single off offspinner Nayeem Hasan.

Jangoo returned to his form meanwhile after a poor outing in the first Test and also could have been dismissed cheaply in this match too. But a butter-fingered Bangladesh fielders helped him to quell the nervousness.

He raised his first half-century from 86 balls by cutting Nayeem Hasan for a single through deep point.

Together with Wickham, he brought the side back on the track before Hasan Mahmud removed the debutant with a well-laid plan. He tested the 23-year-old debutant from Barbados with a barrage of bouncers before delivering a perfect length ball to scatter his wicket.

Jangoo and Greaves then saw out the session with near perfect cricket.

Taskin and Hasan shared the four wickets evenly by taking two wickets each, reports BSS.
