I don't seek vote from anyone else: Papon

Staff Reporter Cricket 2021-10-07, 11:46pm

DHAKA -Nazmul Hassan Papon, who was elected Bangladesh

Cricket Board (BCB) president again after grabbing highest votes in the
'board of directors' election, said that he didn't seek vote from the
councillors.

While this comment came up as surprise to all present in his first press
conference after being elected president, he made it clear that he wanted to
realize his actual situation in the field of election.

"To be honest, I didn't seek votes from the councillors despite being
contested in the election for the first time," he said here today. "But
someone else can seek vote for me or can give sms but I don't seek vote
personally. I want to see my actual situation. You may say, I wanted to test
myself."

Papon acquired 53 votes, which was joint-highest in the Categroy-2
(Dhaka League Clubs). Veteran organizer Enayet Hossain Siraj and young
organizer Gazi Golam Mortuza Pappa also bagged 53 votes as 57 councillors
were finalized for this category.

The BCB chief said he was surprised to get so many votes in the
election.

"What I understood that the councillors actually want the development of
the cricket and that's why, they were not biased. Even there are people, whom
I believe don't like me, they voted me. This made me believe for the sake of
cricket, all people came under same umbrella."

It was the third straight time, Papon was elected BCB president, while
it's his fourth term in BCB as its chief.

Nazmul Hassan Papon first became president of the country's most
influential sporting body after being nominated by the government in 2012
when the then BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal became the ICC president.

As ICC made it mandatory to elect president by an election for its all
member countries, the BCB changed its constitution, paving the way of
election in this post. Papon became the first elected president in BCB's
history in 2013 and then again was elected in 2017.

Papon and his directors placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait
in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the capital today before starting their new mission.BSS
