Young Tigers beat Australia to gain huge boost ahead of U19 WC

Dhaka, 18 Jan - Bangladesh Under-19 team gained a much-needed boost ahead of the Under-19 World Cup campaign, beating mighty Australia by five wickets in their second and final warm-up game at Pretoria yesterday.

    In the first practice game, which was hit by rain, Bangladesh slumped to a 112-run defeat to Sri Lanka on DLS method.

    Pacer Rohanat Doullah Borson made the game memorable for him, slamming a hat-trick. He however claimed 4-21 in five overs to help the side bundle Australia out for just 165 in 37.1 overs.

    Iqbal Hossain Emon, Maruf Mridha, Rafi Uzzman Rafi and Sheikh Parvez Jibon scalped one wicket apiece.

    Haris Singh was the top-scorer for Australian youth team with 46 while captain Hugh Weibgen made 31.

    Bangladesh raced to the victory in 32.1 overs, making 166-5 with Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan hitting highest 53 not out to lead the side to the facile victory. Jishan Alam with 23 was the next-best scorer.

    The 2020 Youth World Cup Champions Bangladesh will start their campaign in the tournament proper, taking on sub-continent rivals India on Saturday.
