Gazi Group stay alive in DPL Super League race

Dhaka, 16 April —Gazi Group Cricket Club stayed alive in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Super League race after recording a 130-run victory over Brother Union by DLS method at BKSP-3 ground today.

The victory, their sixth in 10 matches, put them in seventh position but a victory in the 11th, which is the last match for them, and their contenders failure could propel them to the six-team Super League phase.

Opting to bat first, Gazi Group compiled a hefty 344-7 with Habibur Rahman Sohan blasting a whirlwind 55 ball-81 with nine fours and five sixes. Sabbir Hossain Sikdar hit 74 while Anisul Islam made a rapid 65. Al-Amin Junior was the other batter to hit fifty as he scored 64.

As the rain stopped the game for a while, Brothers got a revised target of 309 in 41 overs but were wrapped up for 178 in 40.3 overs after Abdul Gaffar Saqlain claimed 4-34. Opener Abdul Mazid was the highest scorer for Brothers with 51.

Captain Shamsur Rahman Shuvo hit a 93 ball-106 as Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club edged City Club past by five runs through DLS method in the day’s other match at BKSP-3 ground.

Opting to bat first Rupganj put up 297-8 with Abdullah Al Mamun hitting 81 to complement his captain Shuvo’s century.

City Club were set 266 runs to win in 41 overs but they were restricted to 260-8. Left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny Junior snapped up 4-32.

Both of the teams however were eliminated from Super League race already.
