Khulna, Chattogram to face off to keep BPL final alive

Greenwatch News Desk Cricket 2022-02-13, 8:37pm

Dhaka,13 Feb  - Khulna Tigers will take on Chattogram Challengers in the Eliminator game of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium  Monday.

The team who will win, won’t confirm the final but they will get a chance to give a shot at the final by taking on the team who will be beaten in the first Qualifier game. Fortune Barishal and Comilla Victorians will take on each other in the first Qualifier later on that day. However, the loser of the Eliminator game will be eliminated straightway.
Both Khulna and Chattogram had to struggle to confirm the playoff stage but they showed unwavering resolve at the fag end of the group stage games. The Minister Group Dhaka were their contender in moving to the playoff phase.

Both of the sides had many similarities also. They started the tournament with a bang but stumbled at the halfway mark before regaining their form in the final stage to confirm the playoff. They indeed had to wait for the last game to know their fate.

Both of the sides confirmed the playoff with the same 10 points, which meant they won five games out of 10 but Chattogram Challengers finished on third by virtue of net run rate. But that mattered little as the Eliminator game will prove who are the better equipped team to give a shot at the final.
In the group stage, no one had absolute domination. In the first meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Dhaka, Chattogram won the game by 25 runs and Khulna took a sweet revenge by beating Chattogram at their den in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram by six wickets. So they will have to prove their strength at the Eliminator game.
