BCB to hold important meeting on Thursday

Cricket 2024-08-27, 11:38pm

Dhaka,  27 Aug- The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to take a decision on allrounder Shakib Al Hasan and head coach Chandika Hathurusingha as it will hold an important meeting today.

Akram Khan, a director of BCB, informed the matter, saying the board may take some decisions on pending issues in this meeting.

A legal notice sought the elimination of Shakib Al Hasan from the national team as he was charged with an alleged murder case.

The BCB president, Faruque Ahmed, earlier said that a decision regarding Shakib will be made after the first test.

"President said the decision regarding Shakib will be taken after the first test. But as far as I am concerned, we are yet to get any legal notice. If we get, we'll sit to take a decision," Akram told the reporters here.

In the last meeting, except for two new directors, eight directors were present. Despite stepping down from the post of president, Nazmul Hasan Papon, who is a councillor from Abahani, is still in the director's post. There are still other directors associated with Awami League politics, and they are yet to show up.

According to the constitution, if a director is absent from three consecutive board meetings, his position will become vacant. They will remain directors even after Thursday's meeting. If they are absent from the next meeting too, these posts can be officially vacated. It is learned that since several directors are absent at this moment, committees under their charge may be divided among existing directors.

Jalal Yunus, who served as the head of cricket operations, resigned first. The Thursday's meeting may see a new cricket operations head.

One of the biggest issues in the meeting could be the topic of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. Although he has a term until the Champions Trophy next February, the current president has already been informed that if he gets a better coach than Hathurusingha, he will remove him from his post.
