With this defeat, Bangladesh has now lost the series, having secured just one win in their last 16 T20 encounters with India. The final match of the series will take place on October 12 in Hyderabad, where Bangladesh will aim to salvage pride in a dead rubber.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India overcame a slow start with blistering performances from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh. Hardik Pandya added to the fireworks, propelling India to a formidable 221 for 9—India's second-highest total against Bangladesh in T20s. The massive target proved insurmountable for Bangladesh, who were bowled out for just 135.
Bangladesh began their chase aggressively but quickly faltered, losing their first wicket at 20 runs. The team struggled to build momentum, with only Mahmudullah Riyad, playing his last T20I, managing a respectable score of 41 off 39 balls. The rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute, with none passing the 20-run mark. Parvez Hossain Emon scored 16, Litton Das made 14, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added 11, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with 16.
India’s bowlers dominated, with Nitish and Varun Chakravarthy claiming two wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Yadav, and Riyan Parag each picked up one wicket.
Earlier, India’s innings exploded into life after a cautious start. Despite an initial setback with the loss of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in quick succession, Nitish and Rinku engineered a stunning recovery. They combined for a 108-run partnership in just 49 balls, with Nitish smashing 74 off 34 balls, including four fours and seven sixes—his first T20 century in just 27 deliveries. Rinku contributed 53 off 29 balls, marking his third T20 fifty.
The Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to contain the run flow, particularly the spinners Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah, who went for over 15 runs per over. Taskin Ahmed was the standout performer with the ball, taking two wickets for 16 runs in four overs. In contrast, Rishad Hossain’s three wickets came at a steep cost of 55 runs.
With one match left in the series, Bangladesh must regroup and find a way to challenge India in what has become a tough rivalry.
