Dhaka, 11 Dec - Opener Tamim Iqbal’s return to competitive cricket after seven months wasn’t remarkable one as the southpaw could score just 11 runs for his side Chattogram in their opening game of the NCL T20 against Rangpur today at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

He though hit one four and one six in 10 balls. Chattogram eventually were restricted to 132-9 before Rangpur overhauled the target in 16.5 overs for a five-wicket victory.

Tamim last played any competitive game on May 6 in Dhaka Premier League at Fatullah Stadium in Narayanganj. Since then he was out of cricket. But as he prepares to lead the Fortune Barishal defend the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title, he chose to play this tournament.

Beforehand, he passed the fitness test conducted by the Bangladesh Cricket   Board (BCB).

Tamim though didn’t retire from the cricket officially, he was not the part of the national team right at this moment. Due to the loggerheads with the then BCB, led by Nazmul Hasan Papon and allrounder Shakib Al  Hasan, Tamim skipped the 2023 ODI World Cup in India and after that he didn’t play any format of cricket.

Even though the incumbent BCB president Faruque Ahmed believes that Tamim still has the ability to play cricket for the national team for at least two years, the opener remained tight-lipped so far on his return to the national fold.
