Bangladesh Women’s U19 wins on Victory Day

Dhaka, 16 Dec - After the national male team secured a victory against West Indies, Bangladesh Women’s Under-19 team made a good start to the Asia Cup by beating Sri Lanka to give the nation another occasion to exalt on its most auspicious day -Victory Day.

The Junior Tigresses beat Sri Lanka by 28 runs at Kuala Lumpur today by showing an unwavering resolve in both batting and bowling.

Asked to bat first, the Tigresses were restricted to 122-9 in a game that was reduced to 17 overs. Sadia Akter was the top-scorer with 31 while Afia Ashima made 25.

Rashmika Sweeandi took 4-23 for Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh bowlers then bowled well in tandem with Sumiya Akter leading the way with 3-12 and being complemented by Nishita Akter and Farjana Easmin’s two wickets haul to hold Sri Lanka back to 94-8 in 17 overs.

After performing well with bowling, Rashmika was the lone warrior for Sri Lanka in batting too by making 20 runs.

Bangladesh will take on Malaysia in their second and last game of the group phase tomorrow (Tuesday).
