Dhaka, 28 Jan - Bangladesh Women's team suffered an eight-wicket defeat to West Indies in the three-match T20 International series-opening game today at Basseterre in St Kitts.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh put up 144-3 with skipper Nigar Sultana Joty leading the charge with 40 ball-53 not out. She hit five fours and two sixes in her knock.

Sharmin Akter Supta made 37 while opener Sobhana Mostary added 22.

But the total proved to be insufficient against a power-packed batting lineup of West Indies, which gunned down the target with incredible ease. They lost just two wickets to overhaul the target with 22 balls to spare.

Skipper Hayley Matthews made an unbeaten 60 off 54, sending the ball across the ropes seven times. Deandra Dotting caused the most havoc, smashing a 22 ball-51 not out, an innings laced with seven sixes.

Bangladesh earlier lost the three-match ODI series by 2-1 and missed out on a direct qualification to the ICC Cricket World Cup.
