Tanzid out to learn the art of playing big innings

Dhaka, 6 April - Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim today said he is trying to learn the art of playing big innings on regular basis in a bid to contribute to team’s cause in a more inclusive way. 

Although Tanzid had already cemented his place as the first choice opener in the national team following the retirement of Tamim Iqbal, his habit of throwing out a good start often put the side in troublesome situation, something the young batter also admitted. 

"I think I have to take more responsibility to play long innings,” Tanzid said here today after his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Legends of Rupganj’s practice session.

“There are many instances that I started well but couldn’t carry on,” he said, adding that he is trying to fix the problems. 

“I believe if I work on those issues intensively, I would fix all those mistakes. If I can hone the art of playing long innings, it will be beneficial for not only me but also for the team,” he added.

Tanzid said he would try to play long innings in the ongoing DPL to make it a habit. 

“I will try from now on. I will try to play long innings in DPL and make it a habit.”

With Tamim Iqbal keeping him away from cricket, Tanzid Hasan Tamim made his way to the national to open in the 2023 World Cup. He showed occasional flashes of brilliance but simply couldn’t show the knack of playing long innings.

He started well against India and scored 51 runs. He also made 36 runs against Australia in that World Cup.

Tanzid was dismissed in 30s three times and in the 20s seven times in his 23-match career. Despite three fifties, he is yet to touch the magic three-digit figure.

"In fact, it's a matter of responsibility,” Tanzid said. “If I have to go further, like if I want to convert the 30s to 50s or 50s to 100, I should increase my sense of responsibility. That’s why I feel, I should work harder."

After the 2023 World Cup, Tanzid also played in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

He knew that after playing two big events, he needs to act in matured way.

“I try to do well for the team always. In fact everyone does it,” he said.  “You will see that many times it is very difficult for all the batters to start the innings. But I feel if I start well, I should make it longer,” he added.BSS
