Dhaka, 15 April —Bangladesh Women’s team made a record of putting up highest total in their WODIs history when they compiled 276-6 in their third match of the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier at  Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today.

They went past their previous highest 271-3, scored against Thailand in the same tournament just five days ago. In that match, Bangladesh pulled of their biggest ever margin victory, sealing the deal by 178 runs.

In their second match, they beat Ireland by two wickets in thrilling contest but not before making another record. Bangladesh registered their highest successful ODI chase in that match.

The record against Scotland was possible due to the superb form of captain Nigar Sultana Joty who blasted 59 ball- 83 not out with 11 fours. Joty hit a record-breaking 101 against Thailand and 51 against Ireland in the previous two matches.

Opener Farzana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter Supta made identical 57 to complement Joty’s effort.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh lost Ishma Tanjim for just 14 but Farzana and Sharmin paved the platform of a big total by sharing 103 runs for the second wicket.

When both of them departed in the space of just 19 runs, Scotland sensed a chance to dominate Bangladesh. But Joty counterattacked in style and single-handedly took Bangladesh past a record-breaking total.

A victory against Scotland however would give Bangladesh their third straight victory that could help them make a giant stride towards qualifying the World Cup. BSS
