Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat first in the first T20 of the three-match series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium today.

Bangladesh included Naim Sheikh and Mohammad Saifuddin in a playing XI as they are eying to restructure the team for the next year's T20 World Cup.

Naim last played a T20 International in 2022 while Saifuddin's last appearance in this format was in 2024. Both of them were recalled following
their strong domestic performance .

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was chosen ahead of Mahedi Hasan, despite his lean record in this format.

Mustafizur Rahman however had to sit out to accommodate Saifuddin, who also can bat, in the squad.

Bangladesh are on a five-match losing streak in T20 format, having lost the last two series to UAE by 2-1 and Pakistan by 3-0

The visiting side lost the preceding two-match Test series 1-0 and three-match ODI series 2-1 against Sri Lanka, reports UNB.
