A clinical all-round performance from Bangladesh, led by pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed and captain Liton Das, saw them crush the Netherlands by 8 wickets in the opening match of the three-match T20I series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Taskin’s Four-Wicket Haul Sets the Stage

Taskin, in sublime form, claimed figures of 4-28 to help restrict the Netherlands to a modest 136-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Bangladesh comfortably chased down the target, reaching 138-2 in just 13.3 overs, with Liton leading the charge with an imperious half-century.

Liton's Masterclass and Record Equalling Fifty

Liton’s brilliant 54 off just 29 balls—his 13th T20I fifty—equaled Shakib Al Hasan’s record for the most T20 fifties by a Bangladeshi batsman. His aggressive innings laid the foundation for an easy chase, with a flurry of boundaries that left the Netherlands bowlers helpless.

Saif Hasan Shines in Return

In his first appearance for Bangladesh in four years, Saif Hasan proved his worth with both bat and ball. He claimed 2-18 in his four overs, helping to put the Netherlands on the back foot. With the bat, Saif remained unbeaten on 36 from 19 balls, including back-to-back sixes to seal the win in style. His 46-run partnership with Liton for the third wicket was crucial in taking Bangladesh across the line with ease.

A Strong Start, But Netherlands Fail to Capitalize

Earlier, the Netherlands were off to a fast start, with opener Max O'Dowd attacking the Bangladesh bowlers from the outset. But Taskin provided the breakthrough, dismissing O'Dowd (23 off 15 balls) before returning to remove the other opener, Vikramjit Singh, who struggled to get going.

Saif Hasan struck twice in his opening over, dismissing skipper Scott Edwards (12) and Teja Nidmanuru, who top-scored for the visitors with 26. At 68-4 in the 10th over, the Netherlands were in serious trouble. Taskin and Saif continued to apply pressure, as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Mustafizur’s Tight Spell

Mustafizur Rahman, while only picking up a single wicket, was a key figure in choking the Netherlands' batting lineup. His tight lines and disciplined length saw him concede just 19 runs from his four overs, suffocating the visitors’ chances of a big score.

Bangladesh Clinch 1-0 Lead

With the win, Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead in the series, showing their dominance in both departments. The Netherlands will need to regroup before the second match, which will be held at the same venue on Monday.
