Dhaka, 11 Nov - Somuya Sarkar hit his second half-century in the match as Khulna narrowly beat Chattogram by two wickets to secure the top
spot of the 27th National Cricket League (NCL) at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight
Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram today.
Soumya, who struck 92 in the first innings, followed it with 71, steering the
side to chase down 237-8 for the side's second victory in the third game,
despite Chattogram offspinner Nayeem Hasan's 5-105.
Resuming the day at 52 for no loss and still needing 185 for a victory,
Khulna faced a hiccup early on Day 4, the final day of the game after Soumya
and his opening partner Amite Mojumder were dismissed in quick succession,
leaving the side to 106-2.
The middle order batters, sans Shahrear Shakib, also failed to come up with
the terms, leaving the side in big trouble. Shahrear was out on 33 as
Chattogram took the stranglehold of the match.
However, Mahedi Hasan played a 50 not out to help the side get over the line.
Asked to bat first, Chattogram managed to put up 351 before being all out and
took a 70-run lead when Khulna were bundled out for 281.
But Khulna bowlers helped the side hit back to the game, dismissing
Chattogram for just 166 in the second innings.BSS
