
Professor Md Hasibur Rashid was arrested from a house on Salimullah Road in Mohammadpur around 8 PM on Saturday.
Police on Saturday arrested former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Professor Hasibur Rashid, who was earlier sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the murder case of student Abu Sayed.
He was detained from a residence on Salimullah Road in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka during a police operation conducted on Saturday evening.
Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Mazbah Uddin confirmed the arrest and said authorities are now verifying how many cases have been filed against the former university vice-chancellor.
Abu Sayed, a student of the English Department at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, was widely recognised as the first martyr of the July mass uprising in 2024.
