A 22-year-old man was killed in a lynch-mob attack over theft allegation in Fatullah area of Narayanganj district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Jisan, son of Yunus alias Inu Mia of Paschim Masdair area.

Family members of Jisan said Kawsar Ahmed, an organiser of a local voluntary organisation named Al Falah and imam of a mosque, along with some people picked up Jisan from his house accusing him of snatching a mobile phone around 10 pm.

Later, they tied Jisan up and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him unconscious.

Then he was handed over to his family.

Family members of Jisan took him to 300-bed Khanpur Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

As soon as his death news spread, family and friends of Jisan carried out vandalism with sticks in the area.

Meanwhile, a video circulating after the incident shows Kawsar Ahmed urging people to unite, saying no one would be able to take action against them if they remained united, and suggesting there would be no legal consequences if public killed an offender, reports UNB.

Mahbub Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Fatullah Model Police Station, said the body bore injury marks.

"The incident is under investigation. Legal action will be taken against those involved," the OC said.
