483 held in 24hrs across capital

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 483 people and filed 59 cases in the capital over the past 24 hours as part of a regular crime crackdown.


The arrests were made by police units across Dhaka, with the Mirpur division accounting for the highest number at 132, followed by Wari with 80, Uttara with 55 and Motijheel with 53, according to a DMP statement, said a DMP press release.

Police also arrested 45 people in Tejgaon, 40 in Gulshan, 34 in Ramna, 33 in Lalbagh and 11 by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the operations, police seized 120 kg of cannabis, 12,375 yaba tablets, two packets of heroin and five litres of locally produced alcohol, the statement said.

Authorities also recovered 11,480 counterfeit cream products, 11 mobile phones, 526 sacks of rice, two knives, a motorcycle, a private car and its remote key, reports BSS.

Police said the arrests and seizures were made during operations in different parts of the capital.

Legal proceedings against those arrested were underway.
