Police Probe Key Figures Behind Dhaka Studio, Clinic Attacks

Police have arrested several people over separate attacks on New Guinea Properties near ECB Chattar and the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, but investigations are continuing to establish the roles of those alleged to have organised or directed the incidents.

In the New Guinea Properties case, police have arrested several suspects, including a person identified as an alleged main planner. The attack, which involved vandalism, looting and gunfire, was reportedly linked to a dispute over land and access to the property.

Content creator Salman Muqtadir’s BrownFish Studio, located inside the New Guinea Properties project, was among the worst-affected sites. The attackers allegedly vandalised and looted the studio along with other structures in the area.

Police said the dispute involved landowners and New Guinea Properties. According to investigators, a 35-katha plot belonging to a retired senior military officer is located beside the project, while access to the plot reportedly depends on roads and a gate controlled by New Guinea Properties.

The police are examining whether the dispute over access and other land-related issues contributed to the attack. Further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.

In the Radda case, police have arrested 12 people in connection with the attack, vandalism and looting at the health centre in Mirpur-1. A Dhaka court sent the latest two suspects, Md Mintu and Md Milon, to jail on Monday, bringing the total number of accused sent to jail in the case to 12.

The Radda MCH-FP Centre was attacked in the early hours of September 25 by a large group of masked people carrying sticks, hammers and locally made weapons. The attackers allegedly tied up two security guards, looted medicines, medical equipment and other valuables, and used an excavator to demolish parts of the facility.

After the attack, a signboard bearing the name “Somomona Dokandar Samity Limited” was reportedly installed at the site. The clinic authorities filed a case against Mirpur BNP leader Hanif Mia and 200–250 unidentified people. Hanif has denied involvement in the incident.

Police are continuing to investigate who organised the attack and brought the excavator to the site. The investigation is also examining the alleged links of local political figures and others to the incident.

The Radda case has also prompted an investigation into possible police negligence. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner ordered a three-member committee to examine whether police personnel failed to respond adequately despite being present near the scene.

The two incidents have renewed concerns over attacks, vandalism, looting and alleged attempts to occupy disputed properties in Dhaka. Investigators are continuing efforts to identify all those involved and determine whether individuals who allegedly directed or financed the attacks played a role in the incidents.
