Jhenaidah, Oct 24 — A housewife was subjected to brutal torture, including having her hair forcibly cut off and chili powder rubbed over her body, over an alleged extramarital affair in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Thursday, police said Friday.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Korati Para village under Naldanga union.

The victim, Suchitra Biswas, wife of Manmatha Biswas, filed a case with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Thursday night, naming five individuals.

The named accused are Tonni Khatun, her (Tonni's) daughters Oni and Koni, son Shuvo, and neighbour Abdur Rashid.

According to police, Tonni Khatun had long harbored anger against Suchitra, alleging an affair between her and Anwar Hossain, an employee at the Kaliganj Land Office. On Thursday afternoon, Tonni along with her children and accomplices barged into Suchitra's home, beat her, forcibly cut off her hair, and rubbed chili powder on her body.

Neighbours rushed to the scene upon hearing her screams, prompting the attackers to flee.

Md. Asad-uz-Zaman, Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said a case has been registered against five persons and drives are underway to arrest them. - UNB
