Murder of former JCD leader: Ex-SP among 3 policemen sued

A Krishak Dal leader filed a case on the allegation that Nurul Alam Nuru, former Assistant General Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, central committee, was shot dead after he was tortured in 2017.  

Three policemen, including former Superintendent of Police of Chattogram, Noor-e-Alam Mina, have been accused in the case.

Md Mizanur Rahman, Krishak Dal’s central leader, filed the case with Chattogram District and Sessions Judge’s Court Thursday under section 15 (2) of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act-2013.

Two other accused are former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station Kefayet Ullah and Sub-Inspector Sheikh Md Jabed.

The complainant’s lawyer Abdus Sattar told the media that the court has not yet given any order. ‘We are waiting for the order’; he added.

According to the case docket, JCD leader Nuru was picked up by plain cloth policemen on March 29, 2017. The accused took him to the Noapara College campus and tortured him physically till 3:00 am on that day.

Later, Nuru was shot in the head and dumped on the bank of the Karnaphuli river in Khelaghat of Bagwan union at the night.

Informed by locals, Nuru’s wife Sumi Akhter went to the spot and identified the body while police recovered the body the next day.

He was buried on March 31 of the same year after the autopsy. - Special Correspondent
