Narsingdi, Nov 9 : Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested twelve men along with arms after a gunfight with the notorious criminal gang ‘Swadhin Bahini’ at Mirzarchar of the district, an officer of the force said.

The elite force conducted the drives in Mirzarchar, Nilakkhya in Raipura upazila and Alokbali in Sadar upazila ahead of the upcoming Union Parishad election, slated for November 11.

While the criminal gangs operating in Nilakkhya and Alokbali fled, the miscreants in Mirzarchar opened shots on the Rab team triggering an exchange of fire, said commanding officer of Rab-11, Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Pasha.

No one was injured, he said.

The arrestees were identified as chief of ‘Swadhin Bahini’ Abdus Sattar alias Swadhin, Kalan Mia, Nazir Hossain, Billal Hossain, Jewel, Abul Hossain, Anis, Khokon Mia, Mizanur Rahman, Ayub Ali, Nasir and Liton.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted the drives to clean the areas of a reign of terror, extortion, robbery and intimidation established by the gangsters, Col. Tanvir said.

Rab also recovered one revolver, two bullets, one shotgun, 29 rounds of shotgun bullets, one shutter gun, six machetes, six sharp weapons, three bullet proof jackets and eight mobile phone sets from their possession.
