Woman killed by ‘drug addict’ son in Mymensingh, locals say

Mymensingh, July 27 -A 55-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her "drug addict" son over refusal to give him money at Kharuali village in Bhaluka upazila under Mymensingh district on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Rupina Begum, wife of Shahabuddin Sahu of the village.

Quoting locals, Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Model Police Station, said Jony Mia, 22, "a drug addict," used to harass his mother Rupina for money.

On Wednesday night, he sought money from his mother. When Rupina refused, Jony "stabbed her with a sharp weapon," leaving her injured.

Later, she died on the way to a local hospital.

Police recovered the body but could not arrest Jony yet as he went into hiding after the murder. - UNB
