Garment workers-police clash in Gazipur: Injured youth dies

A youth was injured in the incident, who was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Police Super of Gazipur Industrial Police-2 Sarwar Alam said, “We have heard the death of a worker”.
The deceased is Md Rasel Mia, 26, son of Abdul Hannan in Jhalokati sadar upazila. He used to work in a garment factory as an electrician.
Workers from several garment factories in Gazipur on Monday (October 30) blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways for the seventh consecutive day, demanding salary hike.
Workers from several shoe and medicine factories also took part in protest marches and highway blockades.
As a result of the blockades, vehicular movement on the highways came to a standstill. Demonstrating workers vandalized several vehicles and set fire to a government vehicle.
At one stage, police charged tear shells, sound grenades and rubber bullets to disperse the workers, leaving several injured.
