The woman allegedly took this step out of rage with her husband.

A woman has been accused of selling her nine-day-old son in exchange for Tk55,000 in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.

She allegedly took this step out of rage with her husband.

The child's father, Akash Ali, filed a complaint against two people including Sohag Ali, son of Matiar Rahman of Helay village in Kaliganj upazila, who bought the child.

Based on the complaint, the child was rescued by the police.

Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Azif confirmed the matter on Thursday afternoon.

Kakoli Khatun, wife of Akash, gave birth to a son by cesarean section on November 28.

Regarding the incident, she said: “My husband was out of trace because of his second marriage. I had nothing else to do but to cover all the expenses.”

Sohag Ali who bought the child said: “I am childless. I bought the child for Tk55,000 through stamp papers in the presence of some local witnesses including the child's mother and grandmother Anwara Khatun. Later, on the instructions of the police, the child was returned to his mother.”
