9 members of illegal kidney trading racket held in Joypurhat

Kidney trading racket, says RAB



Joypurhat, Jan 12 -- Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested nine members of an illegal kidney trading racket from Kalai upazila in Joypurhat.

The arrestees are  ring leader Khawja Moyen, 44, Azadul Islam, 37, Abdul Karim Forkan Ali, 45, Afsar Mondol, 56, Nurul Islam, 51, Bablu Fakir, 52, Sobhan Mondol, 52, Mozahidul Mondol, 41, and Sajedul Fakir, 37, of the upazila.

Commander Lt Col Md Ziaur Rahman Talukdar of Rab-5 said tipped off, a team of Rab-5 arrested the nine criminals after conducting drives in Joypurbohoti, Boiragihat and Moslemganj villages of the upazila on Tuesday night.

Ziaur Rahman said this racket used to collect kidneys from poor people of this alluring them of giving big amount of money. However, after collecting the organ through surgery, they refused to pay the money to the victims.

This racket used to smuggle these kidneys to the brokers of the country and in several neighboring countries, the official added.

Legal action will be taken against them, said the Rab official. – UNB
