Fugitive death-row convict arrested in Joypurhat



Joypurhat, Feb 7 - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a fugitive convict who was sentenced to death in a schoolboy murder case, from Bhadsa in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district on Tuesday.

The arrestee was identified as Baitul Hossain Sujon, 38, son of Rafiqul Islam of Debipur in Joypurhat municipality area.

Tipped off, a joint team of RAB-5 and RAB-10 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sujon on Tuesday evening, says a press release of RAB.

On June 28, 2002, Moazzem Hossain, a school student and son of Fazlur Rahman of Pramanik Para in Joypurhat, was brutally killed.

Fazlur Rahman filed a case with Joypurhat Police Station.

In 2003, police submitted chargesheet against 11 people including Sujon.

On January 31, last year, a court sentenced 11 people to death in connection with the murder.

Of the convicts, six including Sujon remained absconding.-UNB
