The victim was identified as Mahmuda Begum, wife of Abdur Rauf of Kalakanda village of Tarati Union of the upazila.

A 45-year-old woman was beaten to death allegedly by her uncle-in-law over a land dispute in Mymensingh's Muktagacha upazila on Friday.

The victim was identified as Mahmuda Begum, wife of Abdur Rauf of Kalakanda village of Tarati Union of the upazila.

Locals said Abdur Rauf had a long-standing dispute with his uncle Abdur Razzak over a piece of land.

Village elders sat this morning with Abdur Razzak to solve the issue, in a form of arbitration (shalish), but no resolution was reached.

When the victim’s family members went for Jumma prayers, Razzak and his son beat Rauf's wife Mahmuda Begum mercilessly, leaving her seriously injured.

“I returned home from prayer and took my wife to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon," Rauf said.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Muktagacha police station Dilip Chandra Sarkar said legal process is underway in this regard.
