Suspected robber lynched in Habiganj

Habiganj, Mar 27 - A suspected member of a robber gang died in a lynch-mob attack on Tuesday on the Lokra-Madna road in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj.

The deceased were identified as ringleader Hiraj Mia, 40, son of Judge Mia of Dhal village of Habiganj Sadar Upazila.

Another member of the gang Abbas Mia, 30, son of late Mastu Mia of the same village, was detained.

Nazmul Haider, sub-inspector of Lakhai police station, said 8 to 10 robbers took position near Jhanjhania bridge of Goakhara village on Lukra-Madna road on at 11 pm on Tuesday.

Sensing the presence of the robbers, local people chased them and gave Hiraj Mia a good thrashing, leaving him injured.

On information, a team of police from Lakhai police station went to the spot and rescued two injured robbers.

When they were taken to Lakhai Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared Hiraj Mia dead.

The body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital morgue for post-mortem. - UNB
