A total of 178 children were killed, 31 of them after torture in Bangladesh during the first quarter of 2024 from January to April, says the quarterly reportof the Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK).
During the four months 28 women were killed by their husbands while six others were murdered adter rape.
Ask recorded 152 rape incidents and 178 cases of domestic violence in the country during the period.
As in the last quarter children appear to be the worst victims of torture. A total of 226 cases of violence were recorded by ASK.
A total of 105 journalists were victims of torture and harassment during the four months. 39 people died under jail custody.
Four alleged deaths by law enforcing agencies and 289 incidents of political violence led to 27 deaths and 2471 injuries. Border violence led to 9 deaths and 7 injuries during the four months.
