Fugitive convicted of rape arrested after 13 years
Dhaka, July 03 - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitive convict of a rape case from Dhaka’s Pallabi area.
The arrestee was identified as Raisul Hasan Arshed, 44.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-2 conducted drive at Pallabi area on Tuesday night and arrested Raisul, who remained a fugitive for 13 years, said senior assistant director (media) of Rab-2 and also the senior assistant superintendent of police Shihab Karim.
Raisul was sentenced to life imprisonment for violating a 7-year-old girl in Mirpur area of Dhaka in 2011.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge handed down the punishment and fined Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one year rigorous imprisonment.
Raisul secured bail in the case and remained absconding. Later, a court issued a warrant for the arrest of Raisul.-UNB
