Sahinuddin murder: Ex-MP Awal, 14 others charged

Charges pressed against ex-MP Awal, 14 others in Sahinuddin murder.



 Police have submitted the charge sheet against 15 people including MA Awal, a former MP of Laxmipur-1 constituency, in a case of hacking a person to death in the capital’s Pallabi area.  

DB Inspector Syed Iftekhar Hossain, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Monday, lower court’s general registration wing Sub-Inspector Abdur Rouf confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

February 17 has been fixed for the hearing on the charge sheet, Abdur Rouf added.

The other accused in the charge sheet are- Sumon Bepari, Md Taher, Md Golam Kibria Khan, Md Murad, Titu, Md Roki Talukder, Nur Mohammad Hasan, Md Sharif, Iqbal Hossain, Md Tarikul Islam Emon, Tuhin Miah, Md Harunur Rashid, Md Shafikul Islam Shafik and Ibrahim Sumon.

Among them, Shafik and Ibrahim are on the run while all 13 accused, including Awal, are behind the bars now.

On May 16 last year, one Sahinuddin was publicly hacked to death in Pallabi over a land dispute in front of his six-year-old son Mashrafe.

On the following day, Aklima Begum, the mother of Sahinuddin, filed a murder case against 20 people including Awal at the Pallabi police station. The case was later handed over to the DB.

On May 20 of the same year, RAB arrested Awal from Bhairab. After that Awal did not get bail in the lower court and he applied for it at the High Court which was also rejected.
