4 kidnapped fishermen rescued in Ctg, 5 robbers held

RAB have rescued four kidnapped fishermen and arrested five robbers from Akmal Ali Road under EPZ thana in the city.



 Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have rescued four kidnapped fishermen and arrested five robbers from Akmal Ali Road under EPZ thana in the city.

The arrestees are Kamal Bahini leader  Md Kamal, 35,Md Noor Nabi, 26, Md Shamim, 24, Md Annie, 31 and Md Ferdous Majhi, 35, of Ramgati and Subarnachar area.

RAB-7 disclosed the matter at a press briefing at Chandgaon Camp (Bahaddarhat) office in the port city on Wednesday.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director Mohammad Nurul Absar said Coast Guard East Zone informed them about the abduction of the four fishermen with the trawler used for fishing in the Bay of Bengal on Chattogram-Hatia channel on February 11. 

The robbers demanded  ransom from their relatives and the boat owners through phone calls.

With the help of information technology through the detectives, a team of RAB-7 rescued the fishermen and arrested the kidnappers on Tuesday night after conducting a 72-hour drive at a building on Akmal Ali Road under EPZ thana in the city.

During the drive, a gun, two shooter guns and several locally made sharp weapons were seized from their possession.

Legal steps were taken against the arrestees, said the RAB official.
